As we enter the 90th Anniversary of the founding of the MEA-NJ, we can truly be proud! There have been many changes over the past 90 years - attitudes about different music styles, piano pedagogy approaches, and audio recording technology, just to mention a few, but the impact of the MEA-NJ has remained positive and strong.
For 90 years, inspiring guest presenters at MEA meetings have inspired our members. The MEA continues to provide various performance and learning opportunities to members and their students. Our original mission, “to raise the standards of private music teaching throughout New Jersey, while encouraging musical excellence and instilling a love of music in our students,” still drives the MEA. That’s part of our celebration: the durability of these original aims as stated in the bylaws. Read about the special celebratory 90th Anniversary events for our members and their students in both the Fall and Spring semesters (previewed below), and please check our website calendar for the 2017-18 presenter line-up, and much more.
Don’t miss Celebrate Ensembles! Thursday, October 19th at 10 AM, Barbara Landi Hause, Coordinator. Hear members play duets and duos—topped off by a ‘monster concert’ performed on the many magnificent pianos at the Steinway Gallery in Paramus! This will be followed by a chance to socialize at our scrumptious luncheon.
Designed for members and their students, Good Times with Ragtime, followed by a student Ragtime Festival Showcase, are “on” for Sunday, November 19, at the Morris Museum’s lovely Bickford Theatre, Ruth Pasquariello, Coordinator. Witness the wonders of automata playing ragtime music—you’ll be tapping your feet. Sign up along with your students for a music-filled afternoon.
Spring’s the time to rejoice at our 90th Anniversary Gala Concert and Cocktails on Sunday, April 8th from 3-6 PM at Drew University, Marcia Maull, Coordinator. Spouses and guests are welcome. Stay tuned for more details!
Mark your calendars for Celebrate Composers! on Thursday, April 19th at 9:45 AM, an exceptional concert of original compositions by our composer-members! Karen Dann Sundquist, Coordinator.
Thanks to every 90th Anniversary Event Coordinator and their team for giving time and effort to arrange and run these celebrations! The strength of the MEA is maintained by the efforts of dedicated members. What an exciting year to become active in the MEA! Volunteer. There are plenty of opportunities. Let us know what you’re good at and what you may enjoy doing to lend a hand. The MEA will benefit, and so will you!
To the next 90!
Nancy Modell, President
